Drug treatment of cancer cells puts a strain on the body. The drugs can attack the body's rapidly growing cells, which also affects the hair. Hair loss either manifests itself in total hair loss or leaves behind a sparse residual hair. The extent to which this happens depends on the drugs prescribed.
WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME FOR A WIG?
As soon as you feel uncomfortable with your own hair, you should make an appointment for a consultation. Remember that the studios have a certain lead time. So make an appointment as soon as possible. Postpone it if you are not feeling well or are not ready yet. We can support you even if your own hair is thinning or if you have thinning areas.
WHERE DO I GET MY WIG?
During therapy, a hair replacement or a wig from a hair replacement specialist can help. Those affected should ideally contact a hair replacement specialist before hair loss begins so that a hair replacement can be selected that is as close to their own hair as possible.
WIGS CAN REDUCE MENTAL STRESS
We recommend that you address the issue of hair loss and hair replacement as early as possible, as this can reduce the psychological stress. Feeling attractive and comfortable increases self-confidence, gives you strength and is ultimately beneficial to the healing process. To maintain self-confidence when you are losing your hair, it can be helpful to wear a wig, hair replacement or headgear.
IMPORTANT: YOUR HAIR WILL GROW BACK!
Even if you are currently suffering from hair loss due to chemotherapy or radiation, remember that your hair will grow back.
WHEN HAIR GROWS BACK – END OF CHEMOTHERAPY
After chemotherapy, hair usually grows about one centimeter a month. The hair may have a different color and structure than your original hair. Many patients can get by without a wig and/or head covering about three months after the last treatment, as by this time the hair has sufficiently regenerated and grown back.
